Cedars Manor School Embrace the Future

Art & Design at Cedars Manor

Innovate, create and express artistic individuality at Cedars Manor.

Intent

Art and Design education provides children with opportunities to develop their creative imagination enabling them to communicate what they see, feel and think through a range of tools, media and materials.

At Cedars Manor children are given regular opportunities to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design. Skills and techniques are taught progressively to ensure that all children are able to learn and practice in order to develop as they move through key stages.

Throughout the key stages children's experience of art is enriched by finding out about famous artists (past and present), and exploring the local

environment for inspiration. We aim to ensure that all children are given high quality experiences to enrich their Art and Design education at Cedars Manor.

Implementation

Our Art and Design topics are aligned with National Curriculum expectations. At Cedars Manor we use AccessArt to support the teaching of Art and Design in Early Years, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.

Art and Design is taught following a progression of skills and knowledge which are built upon year by year and sequenced appropriately to maximise learning for all, ensuring pupils are inspired, motivated and challenged. Children are given the freedom and flexibility to explore their artistic talents and design capabilities without limits and are exposed to key vocabulary which supports and builds their understanding of the importance of the tools and techniques necessary to fulfill their art and design potential.

Through the use of AccessArt children are able to;

*Produce creative work, exploring their ideas and record their experiences

*Become proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture, craft and design techniques

*Evaluate and analyse creative works using the language of art, craft and design

*Know about great artists, craft makers and designers, and understand the historical and cultural development of their art forms

Children in Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 present their creations in a sketchbook which showcases their Art and Design learning journey and progress in the subject.

Impact

The impact of teaching Art and Design through AcessArt will result in most learners meeting age related expectations. Children will be able to express themselves emotionally through art, interpret observations, convey insights and accentuate their individuality. Children will develop their confidence to draw adventurously from observation, memory and imagination using 2d and 3d forms and digital media. Children will be able to reflect on, challenge and critically evaluate their own work and that of others. Children will retain knowledge and understanding of artists, craft makers and designers and recognise their contributions to Art and Design..

Ongoing assessments in Art and Deaign take place throughout the year. Teachers use this information

to inform future lessons; ensuring children are supported and challenged appropriately. This data is analysed on a termly basis to inform and address any trends or gaps in attainment.
