Cedars Manor School Embrace the Future

PE at Cedars Manor

Being active and learning actively, with confidence, at Cedars Manor

Intent

Our intention is that Physical Education (PE) an essential part of education, contributes to each child’s all-round healthy development. We aim to provide high-quality enjoyable, challenging activities, that enable children to become physically confident and competent. Through exercise and physical activities, we aim for each child to experience success. PE and sport provide clear opportunities for children to develop and practise the school values demonstrating safety and respect. We support and encourage the national curriculum aims for physical education, that all pupils:

  • develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities
  • are physically active for sustained periods of time
  • engage in competitive sports and activities
  • lead healthy, active lives

The curriculum map is designed with the Harrow sporting events in mind so that children can be well prepared to be able to take part in borough-wide sporting events.

Implementation

Within the School Curriculum, all children have two hours of timetabled PE each week. These are split into 2 sessions each week. Further opportunities to be physically active are encouraged at lunch time through structured games.  In the Early Years, children have both structured PE sessions and child-initiated opportunities to be physically active in the outdoor learning environment e.g. using balance bicycles, climbing and building with large-scale construction apparatus.

Relaxation and control is taught through 30 minute weekly yoga lessons for each class. Pupil voice on these sessions is particularly positive.
